Viewing the c, m, y and k plates
  • First switch "off" the c, m, y and k plates.
  • Select the update icon.
  • The separations view will be blank.

Select through the c, m, y and k plate icons one at a time, selecting the update icon after each one.

The plates build up the separations.

Each of the plates is shown in its "ink color", with the separations view showing what happens when those ink colors are combined for printing. The "ink color" for the plates is set in the Globals section of the renderstyle library.

If you zoom in on a section where the lines overlap you will see how the ink colors will mix.

If we went back to the Job card and set up to produce an output file of the c, m, y or k plates the plate view shows what we would be getting.

Remember that:
The cmyk1234 are used for color separation output in the offset printing process. The cmyk1234 plates are the individual printing plates that take the ink to produce the output.

Those ink colors are:

  • c = cyan
  • m = magenta
  • y = yellow
  • k = black
  • 1 = Spot color 1
  • 2 = Spot color 2
  • 3 = Spot color 3
  • 4 = Spot color 4

The spot colors are usually solid colors mixed by the printer for a specific result. These views will be blank in this excercise.

Cad Publisher enables you to produce output files for the normal four color process (cmyk) plus four spot colors.
